What can we do in February ?

Some tasks we can do this month would be - A light hoeing or forking of the soil ( Try using an oscillating hoe if you have bulbs planted )

Remove all dead leaves and dead growth from perennial plants

Near the end of the month prune Hydrangeas to a leaf joint, and give the roots around the base a top dressing of

organic matter. ( Bracken Down or Strulch are excellent for this )

Prune dead growth from Roses, also reduce to a strong shoot to create a more compact plant

Top dress Rhododendrons and Camellias as they like to be kept moist through the Winter, ready for Spring flowers

You can still cut grass if the weather is favourable, and if rain is forecast feed with Bone Meal to strengthen roots

* Don’t prune or cur grass if the forecast is for a frost *

Look at the garden and make plans for any changes, if design or building work is required now would be a good time
